Languages

We understand and believe that language is fundamental to any learning process as it expands the boundaries of how students think and communicate. Our course thus aims to not only develop an appreciation for language, but also of literature in all its different genres. Our approach is holistic and through our course, we promote inquiry-based, authentic learning through an investigative approach of different genres and text types.

Mathematics

Math aims to build the skills that help students describe the world, model its phenomena and solve some of its problems. In grades 9 and 10, we offer Standard Mathematics and Extended Mathematics and students follow the path that provides them with the appropriate level of challenge.

Sciences

Science is an adventure in life. Students experience science as a human activity and its relevance to society and to one’s own personal, intellectual framework. Students learn how to gain knowledge, think critically and to grow as thinking, aware, and concerned human beings. Through meaningful and motivational experiences, students identify their unique traits and where they fit in life. From tips and insights, to personal reflections, teachers inspire the minds of the next generation of scientists and spark in our students a lifelong curiosity of science and the natural world, forming creative and thinking adults who can work both independently and collaboratively. The sciences at Ahliyyah & Murtan have their own identity: "بيت العلوم". To see the accomplishments of students and the initiative by different sciences departments, please download our newsletters Volume 1, Volume 2, and Volume 3.

Individuals & Societies

Although it is fully aligned with IB MYP requirements, the MYP Individuals and Societies curriculum is unique in its approach of localizing skills and knowledge to suit local, national and regional requirements. The curriculum includes topics covering Jordan and the Middle East in a way that allows students to progressively build on knowledge of local and regional realities, both past and present, in addition to having in depth awareness of global issues such as climate change and the environment, peace and conflict, poverty and much more. At the heart of teaching these issues are the UN Sustainable Development Goals in aims to instill global citizenship -without compromising rootedness- and to encourage students to act in the interests of their wider global community rather than be idle “consumers of knowledge”.

ATL Skills

Through teaching Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, we aim to prepare our students for future challenges and help strengthen their mental and physical ability to navigate successfully through unfamiliar situations. The ability to apply both critical and creative thinking skills is a necessary future requirement, as traditional assessment-driven approaches are no longer enough and have become irrelevant for future work. We envision our students to be ethical, resilient, resourceful, responsible, respectful, creative and ready to overcome hurdles in an increasingly competitive world.

Interdisciplinary Learning

We have a mission to create a generation that can make a difference in the world by engaging them in a rigorous program that presents opportunities of interdisciplinary learning experiences. Interdisciplinary learning and teaching, one of the key features of MYP, helps the students find solutions to life's problems, explain phenomena and understand the complexity of life. Throughout the MYP years, our students engage in many interdisciplinary experiences in each discipline taught and at least one collaboratively planned unit that integrates concepts and bodies of knowledge within two different subject groups. The interdisciplinary experience is a leverage to help students gain a new look at life and allows them to be innovators and agents of change.

Community Service & Service Learning

Ahliyyah & Mutran's garden was inspired by an on-campus greenhouse that was used as an educational/research space for the sciences. The school community saw an opportunity to establish our own organic garden with the aim of promoting the practice locally. The garden aims to produce food while establishing an ecological balance to prevent soil infertility or pest problems. Ahliyyah & Mutran attained second place at Al Hussein FUND for Excellence in 2016 for their Organic Garden Project. It is noteworthy that some of the cafeteria products are prepared using the vegetables produced in the organic garden (when in season) to provide a healthy option to all students.

After-School Activities

Besides holding all practices for all our sports teams after school hours, students are offered a variety of after-school clubs every year that enrich their social skills and improve their academic performance.
